Stuffed peppers are a favorite dish in Hungary, simple and homey. The practice of stuffing vegetables actually originated with the Turks. But after years of domination by the Ottomans, Hungarians adopted töltött paprika as their own in the 16 and 17th centuries. For this dish, Hungarians like to use long, sweet, yellow peppers. Known as banana peppers abroad, in Hungary they are called tölteni való paprika (peppers for stuffing), or TV paprika for short.
It is served with tomato sauce which is a bit sweet, sugar added to it. The meat filling is ground pork, rice, egg, paprika powder, garlic, onion, salt and pepper.

Hungarian stuffed pepper is classc dish, we make it all the time, especially when peppers and tomatoes are in season. Hungarian yellow peppers give this dish its distinct taste, although any kind of bell peppers can be used. The Hungarian sweet peppers have a thinner skin and doesn’t require as long to cook, it is what the Hungarians would use over the coloured sweet peppers. This is an easy recipe to prepare and impress your friends and family with. Traditionally it is made with pork, but any type of ground meat will work with this recipe.
