Vegetarian cooking class in Budapest

3 – 4 hours

You’ll hear it more than once: “You’re vegetarian? And you came to Hungary?” – usually with one eyebrow raised in disbelief.

Yes, Hungarian cuisine is known for its love of meat, dairy, and eggs. But here’s the good news: many of our most iconic dishes can be adapted into delicious vegetarian versions—without losing their authentic flavor or character.

Our vegetarian cooking class runs about 3 to 4 hours, during which you’ll prepare three full dishes from start to finish. From hearty stews to paprika-rich sauces and classic desserts, you’ll learn how to bring out the best of Hungarian cuisine—completely meat-free.

Whether you’re a lifelong vegetarian or just looking to try something different, we’ll guide you through an experience that’s as flavorful as it is fun.

What to expect from your vegetarian cooking class?

Expect to roll up your sleeves—because in our kitchen, you do the cooking. This is a hands-on experience where we guide you through preparing classic Hungarian dishes, adapted fully to a vegetarian menu.

The class lasts around 3–4 hours, during which you’ll prepare a full three-course meal from scratch. The menu is flexible and can be tailored to include traditional Hungarian dishes you’re curious about or eager to learn for the first time.

As we cook together in our home kitchen, you’ll get an insider’s look at Hungarian food culture—from ingredients and techniques to customs and everyday life. All in a relaxed setting with step-by-step guidance, friendly conversation, and a glass of wine or pálinka.

At the end of the class, we sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve created.

No prior cooking skills needed.

Clear, easy-to-follow instructions.

All ingredients, drinks, and recipes included.

A personal, cultural experience beyond the plate.

“We had such a great time cooking with Agnes! She went above and beyond altering our menu to satisfy my vegetarian diet but allowing my husband to enjoy meat dishes too. It was very interesting to visit a local apartment, immerse in the culture and spend a day shopping and cooking, just beware of getting very full!!”

“Our chef Andrew was fantastic. The entire afternoon was relaxed and friendly. My boyfriend and I are not skilled cooks but were taught how to prepare the vegetarian dishes step by step. I felt completely at home in Agnes’ humble apartment. Also, Agnes has been great to communicate with – very helpful and even sent me some extra vegetarian recipes after the class!”
